barcelona-based designer, christian vicanco has released 'algae'
in collaboration with spanish company, almerich.
the suspension light was developed after vivanco closely observed
seaweed and the coral reefs in the mexican caribbean.
reminiscent of the intense and varied colors and constant underwater
movement of algae, the sculptural lamp hangs in the air,
changing in its' appearance depending on the angle
at which it is viewed from.
two sheets of acrylic - one colored and one clear frosted- are draped
over a compact fluorescent tube, concealing the lamp and the housing.
as a result, both the emanating light and the overall color are diffused.
'algae' is available in a variety colors.
