cho hyung suk: modernatique

'modernatique,' designed by cho hyung suk

with 'modernatique,' korean industrial designer cho hyung suk unites traditional and contemporary furniture design.
the collection, whose name is a portmanteau of 'modern' and 'antique,'
adapts the bold colors and clean lines of modern design to the curves and profiles characteristic of antique pieces.

table and black chairs, made of black walnut and ash

a student of the modern discipline of 'art-furniture,'
cho finds himself nonetheless influenced by the traditional and utilitarian views of his family.
it is the productive tension between the old and the new that he explores in his work.

all of the pieces are made of wood, in combinations of dark walnut and white and colored ash.

beautiful and clean!

I agree. Nicely proportioned as well. I only wished that the half sphere feet shown in the prototype were molded and applied instead of the usual leveling foot shown in the production chair in the last image. It added an extra lightness to the overall system. Otherwise, a solidly designed family.
