peter marigold: half full / half empty

'half full / half empty'

london-based peter marigold has designed 'half full / half empty' for the idee wood stool project.
the pieces are made from dying cryptomeria japonica trees which are turned green on a lathe,
creating the curved stools, which crack open as they dry. each one is reversible in the sense that
they are designed to appear either top or bottom heavy.

I dig. It makes more sense to see all of his work together, then these simple gestures begin to reveal a complex investigation of function and form. nice.

Try turning a stool from a tree trunk that won't crack, now thats a challenge !

Between the land art approach and the Japanese savoir faire for wood there Is a potential for something truely great, in this project the wood can't be seen for the trees.
