psychic factory: droplet traffic light

'droplet traffic light,' designed by psychic factory
a new concept project by korean design and development studio psychic factory,
'droplet traffic light' imagines a future where time spent waiting at red lights is not wasted away.
the device is modeled on the standing style of traffic light.
after turning red, the light swivels its LED displays
to project news headlines and useful information such as the weather or time.
shortly before turning green, the display switches again,
and the device returns to functioning as a normal traffic light.

the device retains an appearance similar to conventional traffic lights

"what does the traffic light to?," the video asks, but they've all but destroyed the original function of the device.
This is poorly considered design.

however - it would be prone to problems with glare from sunlight and the distraction associated with the "enriched information system" could pose problematic from a traffic safety standpoint
I wish I could drive down the highway and notice the river instead of the huge bill boards. There is a point when too much information and our brains don't have time to play.
philips freestreet lights
designed to reduce light pollution and urban clutter, the street lighting system eliminates the need for poles in illuminating public areas at night, relying instead on the stringing of narrow cables equipped with LEDs.
self-powered CO2-absorbing microalgae street
french biochemist pierre calleja has developed a lamp for use as street lighting (as well as in indoor spaces) that absorbs more carbon dioxide than a tree, each unit eliminating 1 ton of emissions per year.

conceived of as part of a larger traffic system redesign, the LCD panels are meant to be installed at crosswalks and bus and tram stops to provide useful information for residents and tourists.
