yuri vishnevsky: weavesilk

yuri vishnevsky's 'weavesilk' program creates dynamic generative art
'weavesilk', a web-based program developed by yuri vishnevsky,
allows anyone to create complex landscapes of colour and line
with simply the swipe of a finger or computer mouse.
a student at rutgers university in the united states,
vishnevsky has just begun a campaign on kickstarter
to raise money for the development of 'weavesilk' application
for tablets and smartphones.

an image from the 'weavesilk' gallery
in its current, web-based form, the program waits for a user to draw on the screen--
temporarily rendering the sketch as lines and stars in the night sky--
and then uses these points as the starting input for its generative algorithm.
the direction, density, and colours of the lines that are generated all vary within and across individual pieces.
the algorithm can be set to run more quickly or more slowly, or played back after its completion.

designboom uses 'weavesilk' to iterate on our name
from top: our original drawing; the design in progress; the image upon completion of the algorithm; the image with new additions drawn in and run through the program
the ability to interact with 'weavesilk' through a touchscreen rather than a mouse
is just one of the reasons vishnevsky hopes to develop his project into an independent application.
he is also exploring the idea of adding code to dynamically generate music and sound
alongside the evolving artwork.
