angell wyller aarseth: handle me

'handle me' cookware collection, designed by the studio of angell wyller aarseth

'handle me' is the first project to be released by norwegian design studio angel wyller aarseth,
the work of long-time collaborators christoffer angel, øyvind wyller, and simen aarseth.

composed of cast iron and thick wooden dowel handles,
the cookware collection reinterprets simple, traditional pieces in a contemporary design.
the prototypes will be exhibited at meet my project, part of maison & objet in paris.

the texture and weight of cast iron draw attention to the physicality of the pieces

the materials were selected to be heavy and durable, drawing attention to their own physicality and simplicity.

the designers hope above all to reconnect users with the process of cooking,
and to slow for a moment the fast and multi-tasking nature of modern society.
they admit as well, regarding their choice of such long-lasting materials,
that 'there [is] something intrinsically romantic about the idea of making 'immortal' products'.

Cast iron cookware is awesome, except for the really hot handles. These look good, look like they address the only real deficiency of cast iron (for me). Definitely prefer the wood, over plastic.

they cant go in the oven, but sexyyyyyyyyy
samuel snickers   01.20.11
Cast iron is the best. Very attractive. Maybe the handsome handles could be detachable for oven use? A simple double hook and lock design would do.
Mort d'Urban   01.20.11
Yup. Burner to oven is just one of the beautiful things about cooking with cast iron. And what about that open fire cooking that cast iron loves? Kind of a problem with these, but never the less, they are gorgeous.

love how these look, but aren't the walls of the frying pan in a very straight angle?
EHV   01.20.11
They are gorgeous :-) Hope they are for sale soooon

i love to own some of this pieces someday, amazing ware.

Most of all, I love the idea that long-lasting consumer products is a good thing. Not everyone wants to live the disposable lifestyle.

My only concern with this beautifully crafted product is the handle on the pot. When filled up, I question the easy of lifting a cast iron pot at that angle with ease.
kishcolli   01.23.11
Beautiful pieces. The sort of "low resolution" for the geometry of the pots results really well. Good concern with detail. I agree with Kisholli, when he reminds the handling of the pot when full.
Mário Barros   01.26.11
humm.... i'm not soo sure about that handle... When filled up, I question the easy of lifting a cast iron pot at that angle with ease without burnig your hand.
