berlin-based architects sauerbruch hutton (louisa hutton and matthias sauerbruch) have developed
a series of furniture in collaboration with munich-based furniture manufacturer classicon.
the pieces of the collection include the 'munich sofa' and 'munich lounge chair'
on show at imm cologne 2011.

the 'munich lounge chair', along with the 'munich chair' and 'munich armchair' created by the duo,
were first developed as seating solutions for the brandhorst museum in munich
which they also designed. the chairs were made for the purpose of use in the institution's cafeteria,
foyer, conference and lecture rooms, as well as the lounge. classicon worked closely with the architects
to bring the chairs to the point of a series production. various tests were conducted in order that the
seats all stood up to the demanding expectations of form and quality and the typical wear and tear
they would be subjected to within the public space.
