karim rashid: cross for freedom of creation

karim rashid has conceived 'cross' in collaboration with freedom of creation,
a dutch company known for their advanced 3D printing technologies. the collection,
which to date includes a suspension and table lamp, was presented at imm cologne 2011.

the suggestive cross-shaped lamp is composed from an agglomeration of small figures
that allude to the designers most famous and iconic forms. each shape - unique in mass
and scale - intersects with the others to produce an arbitrary surface that filters light
while creating and defining shadow.

yawn,
What a waste of 3D printing and an ego stroke referencing his own previous work.'

Take a look at Nervous System's Reaction Lamp for an innovative and aesthetically sublime 3D printed lamp. Reaction Lamp

Great, more plastic garbage from Karim Rashid. One more thing to throw away...

Love it or hate it, but it is definitely Karim's style.
Katarina Fruebe   01.26.11
I would not buy it, but it's a pleasant object and good use of the 3D technology.
