recent design academy eindhoven graduate henry wilson has created a collection entitled ‘things revisited’ where he questions the functions of existing products. the solutions have been executed through a series of designs that look to alter how we use and examine everyday objects.

henry wilson: things revisited ‘factory lamp’

initially developed for use in industrial work spaces, the war time task lamp has been simplified and modernized with the introduction of a glass shade and a near-invisible LED light source. the restrained approach allows the intricate engineering and restrained delicacy of the original aesthetic to rein.

henry wilson: things revisited trivet lid (addition)

the traditional ‘le creuset’ pot, that is cherished for its form and material is outfitted with a custom trivet that attaches to the lid without any modification to the original design. the stand, which addresses the need for a heavy duty surface protector allows the user to easily transport the dish from oven to table. currently in production, the trivet will soon be available for purchase through shapeways.

henry wilson: things revisited ‘kikkoman soy sauce lid’ by kinji ekuan

the ‘kikkoman soy sauce lid’ by kinji ekuan is a product that functions so well, users don’t often question its smart design. by using the same forms and connections on a variety of bottles, individuals are able to similarly access and pour other liquids.

henry wilson: things revisited ‘electric kettle’ (transplant)

the traditional enamel kettle has been adapted without the use of plastic components. heat conducting points have been coated in industrial silicone to eliminate heat transfer between the user and the metal vessel.

‘factory lamp’, ‘trivet lid (addition)’,  ‘kikkoman’ and ‘electric kettle (transplant)’ were recently on show as part of the ’01| 01′ exhibit at the valerie traan gallery in antwerp.

henry wilson: things revisited triplex lighter

much like the ‘zippo lighter’, the object runs on the basic fuel and flint system. by extending the length of the handle, the appeal of the product is broadened, giving it domestic purpose beyond lighting cigarettes.

henry wilson: things revisited ‘bedrock lamp’

‘bedrock lamp’ was originally designed as a reaction to the recent burst of popularity in edison light bulbs. the wasted energy from the filament is converted into heat which is then absorbed into the environment. the series of lamps are designed to capture this lost heat through a highly thermal mass of concrete. the result is a warm, pillow-like rock the cradles the exaggerated light bulb.
