hannes harms: scum chair

german industrial design student hannes harms has sent us images of 'scum chair',
an assemble-it-yourself furniture piece that utilizes expanding foam. exploring the idea
of usability, the design consists of a piece of cardboard with a perforated pattern of
the fold-out structure. users are then able to simply fold the stool together and
seal it off with expanding foam.

a playful take on the traditional flatpack-furniture system, 'scum chair' feeds off
the contrasting aesthetic elements of the organized, folding mechanism with
the gelatinous foam to create a product that questions the idea of 'anti-design'.

I wondered if there was any good use for that evil stuff they sell at the hardware store. http://www.getlucid.net/
Kim Phillips | Lucid Marketing   01.28.11
haha and how about the environment?
J   01.28.11
for me, this stool is original and inventive. yes serzy seymour used the foam, but not with the hard edged angles as a counter balance
nice   01.28.11
why use the same name for the project then? Scum, its Jerzy's name for his projects with foam.
If it is about about the hard angles? Why use cardboard to make those edges? They were out in a minute.
Why combine a bio degradable material in combination with the foam? What is this project about? DIY? Shape or contrasts? Durability? there are so many contrasts in this project that in the end it doesnt stand for anything.
Really, you have to dig deeper and make decisions to come up with something inventive and original.

all material makes toxic.
if you don't want to make non-toxic, you'd better than sleep all day not to make something.
every creating makes environmental pollution.

Creative - yes.

Ein schöner stabiler Stuhl. Die Herstellungskosten halten sich offenbar in Grenzen oder? Könnte man auch Sofas so herstellen? Harte oder weiche Sitzfläche?
Heide   01.29.11
Love it, beautiful!
