‘my family’ by sonia verguet

strasbourg-based designer sonia verguet has developed ‘my family’ a project which explores the recycling of chairs and how to make their components work together to create new pieces. just like members of a regular family, there is the tall uncle, the fat daddy, the small cousins. all variably different in style, there are features which carry across each furniture object, making them all noticeably from ‘the same family’.

verguet produces a constant element, a ‘wooden box’ used to produce each family member, combining this common element with components from existing chairs that she gets from flea markets.

‘my family’ has produced in collaboration with the contemporary art center la kunsthalle of mulhouse in france.
