sergio mendoza: SMP lights
sergio mendoza: SMP lights
SMP 01, SMP 02 and SMP 03 lights by sergio mendoza
this series of lamps was developed at domaine de boisbuchet in france, where sergio mendoza is part of the team
that organizes it's workshop program. at the domain, fruit and vegetables are delivered every day in wooden crates.
once empty, they can not be reused and are burned every night. the idea was to use not only this wood as a main
material, but to figure out a process that would allow the construction of various light typologies and maybe other
objects, such us chairs, tables.
in the end the lamps can be made from scratch with very basic materials and techniques in no longer than sixty
minutes. since the materials are somehow alien to those traditionally used for this kind of lamps, archetypal shapes
were maintained, resulting in a series of warm, sympathetic looking lights.
