jesper jonsson: movement of a moment

'movement of a moment' clock by jesper jonsson

a clock without a face, 'movement of a moment' by swedish industrial designer jesper jonsson
uses changes in light to depict the time.

in the piece, an hour and minute hand hidden at the back of the clock cause breaks in the clock's ambient glow.
thus the time is read in the conventional method, but cued by a more subtle visual,
meant to reference the rhythm of natural daylight.

'movement of a moment' is on exhibition at the stockholm furniture fair 2011 in 'the collector',
which features the work of graduate students at the HDK school of design and crafts.

a little hard to read when the hands are close together, but i love the aesthetic of this! i think i might even like the fact that the time is left slightly ambiguous, just as it would be if you estimated the hour based on the sun.

Actually it kind of looks inspired after another clock design... called lights o'clock or something...
this one is sort of the opposite of that one..
Nice one nevertheless.

and how exactly do you distinguish hours from minutes... not very practical
