philadelphia-based designer matthias pliessnig has completed a recent project entitled 'spill'.
consisting of two pairs of benches made from steam bent white okay, the pieces have both
an area for seating with upright support and a wide expanse area for bench seating.
'spill' has been installed within the lobby of the alexandria center (situated between the entrance
of the building and the entrance of the riverpark restaurant), a new building in new york city.
the forms of the four seating areas are influenced by furniture functionality, geometric flow,
the human form and the interior space itself.

These benches looks really well designed and made.
But unfortunately I can't help think of David Trubridge who has done a lot of works like this.

I think it comes down to values i would never be happy copying someone else's process. I believe Trubridge and Matthias took a lot of cues from shipbuilding and Bea Sehwa just takes his cues from them.

Yeah, i think you have to look at the year in which they were made. Matthias work in these materials dates back to 2005 - 2006 - whereas Bae Sehwa is 1 -2 years after (2007 is the earliest of these similiar forms) - trubridge is a similiar process and according to the website 2005 - 2010 is the year - so seems that they were doing the same process at the same time. The forms are completely different though.

I agree with both of those comments. While Trubridges work has similar forms Matthias has another take evolving a bit from the work of trubridge. And the timing is way to close for my comfort. Bae Sehwa seems a step behind Matthias and dangerously close to the same forms. I have been following Pliessnig's work for a while now...Gimmy seems to have the times periods right.
