the work of late hungarian designer, mathieu matégot, who for over a decade created various
design classics, is being reintroduced to the market through danish design company gubi.
'nagasaki' chair and 'kangourou' side table, objects that both showcase the technique and aesthetic
the designer was best known for, are part of the collection that is set to be released this spring.

the three legged 'nagasaki' chair, possibly matégot's best known piece, is composed of delicately
curved sheets of perforated metal that act as a seat and back. tiny stirrups brace the tubular legs,
connecting the seat and the base together. the light and simplistic form, which symbolizes 1950's
design, uses light and shadow to create layers of graphic patterns and geometric shapes.

shadows also play a role in the 'kangourou' side table, which consists of two small tables. different
in height and shape, the perforated metal objects nestle into each other creating a half-moon shadow
on the floor below when used together. three tubular legs support each of the tables, with contrasting
brass details on each foot.
the 'nagasaki' chair and 'kangourou' side table were recently exhibited along with the rest of the
collection at stockholm furntiure fair 2011.

a few weeks ago so excited to see his pieces re-issued! He was so inventive in his use of industrial materials like perforated sheet metal.
