sweden / norway-based studio hareide design has created ‘illusion’ in collaboration with contemporary brand northern lighting. the object, which hovers above the ground, challenges our perceptions of gravity and offers an element of surprise.

hanging suspended from the ceiling and anchored to the floor by a weight, the aluminum lamp combines to common functions into one piece. the base of the lamp is at once transformed into a table where one can rest books, cocktails or other lightweight objects.

the lamp, which was most recently on show at the stockholm furniture fair 2011, was conceived after an encounter with kjeragbolten, a large rock that hovers in the crevice of a mountain above lysefjorden in norway.
