eindhoven-based studio pelidesign (alexander pelikan) presents ‘a machine’s perception’, a series of door handles, at milan design week 2011 in the ventura lambrate area of the city. working to combine both experimental design and craftsmanship, pelikan has developed these door handles by monitoring both the possibilities and shortcomings of machines. ‘a machine’s perception’ explores the errors of 3D scans and their ultimate visualizations. with his designs, a flawed virtual reality becomes real and tangible. the door handles are developed in partnership with research laboratory TNO eindhoven and studio ludens, and are 3D printed in steel by i.materialise.
