oskar zieta: ballantine’s 12 bar

designboom is currently in warsaw, poland where designer oskar zieta has created 'ballantine’s 12',
a steel bar that looks like a pile of melting ice cubes. specifically designed for ballantine's anniversary event
at nettie horn gallery in london, the piece aims to unite the studio's unique design language with ideas that are
inherent to the whiskey brand.

by experimenting with the same complex process of his previous work,
zieta was able to reverse the typical method of inflation - seen his previous fidu bench -
and implode the material by literally melting the steel. each stabilized block is heated to over
700 degrees then suddenly cooled down to fix the organic and individual shape in to place.

absorb and reflect the surrounding environment, constantly changing
in its appearance and visually distorting everything that encompasses it.

The whole place looks really untasty. The combination of so many elements does not work very well together. Weird "tribals" on the wall, the cubes in the middle and what is the Glass thing in the left side? He should stay with furniture and not make spacial stuff like this.

gee - now THAT looks like something I really really want to cozy up to and socialize around

cool sculpture but virtually worthless as a functional element

I doubt they designed those "glass thing in the left side" so as "weird tribals", they are strictly into steel. melting bar is cool and i like it.

the bar itself is really cool, but if he was the interior designer (or had anything at all to do with the horrific walls and school disco lighting) then its time to re-channel an inner mafioso back into scaring grannies out of their pensions
I blame the client...   03.20.11
the glass thing is a stool. both 'glass thing' and the 'tribals' were not designed by Zieta Prozessdesign. Only bar.
