robert stadler: informed at nilufar gallery

informed installation by robert stadler

'informed' by paris-based designer robert stadler at nilufar gallery is an installation that is included in the
group show 'atomi' as part of milan design week. posing the question 'information is everywhere.
what would happen if furniture itself became information?', the series consists of four pieces -
a mirror, rug, bookshelves and a stool - each furniture object displayed against a blue background,
the internet's most predominant color.

'i-mirror' front (left) and back (right)

'i-mirror' together with 'i-carpet' invert the letter 'i', turning it into a functional exclamation mark -
a reminder that we are the centre of our domestic environment, and that, therefore, we are free to choose the way
in which we want to live in spite of advertising trying to promote predefined lifestyles. carved from carrara marble,
a material traditionally used for figurative sculptures, here the person is reflected by the mirror with the marble
acting as the frame. one can store personal belongings on the shelves carved into mirror's rear.

'i-mirror' with 'i-carpet'

'i-carpet' is meant to represent the dot of the exclamation. the ellipse from a certain perspective,
appears like a circle, and can be removed from the rug like a piece of a puzzle.
made from wool and hand-woven in nepal.

i don't know perpetual, could say the same thing about wood, metal, glass, concrete, plastic, cardboard... these materials all have a history already.

Bloop, I agree with you that no designer owns a specific material, its what they do with it that counts.

In the last 3 years marble has made a strong come back in design with all sorts of contemporary objects having been crafted already in this noble material, including the Bella table mirror.

Hence my contention of Stadler's project being 'a little late to the party'
Perpetual   03.29.11
The concept of this project is technology, so whats the link to marble ?
Beef   03.29.11
Puerile understanding and exercise. Furniture is already information. And technology is not exclusively interchangeable with information.
