ora-ïto: evomobil + UFO for citroën

in what he characterizes as a kind of 'mutation' on the the classic forms of the citroën brand,
french designer ora-ïto has developed the 'evomobil' and 'UFO' concept cars.
the vehicles were on display during milan design week, in an outdoor exhibition by citroën
that also showcases pieces from the 'avverati - a dream come true' exhibition of the evolution of design,
as well as a sculptural installation of ora-ïto's along via montenapoleone that departs from the citroën logo.

together, 'evomobil' and 'UFO' compose a 'mutation' family, whose design straddles the worlds of art, science,
and technology. the forms of the cars derive from citroën's 'traction avant' and 'DS' vehicles, but are imagined
as an organic-like evolution of the originals. in the 'evomobil', for example, the lights have drifted out
onto extensions stretching from the car's front and rear, mimicking a transformation also observed in biological evolution.
the cars were designed not as pre-production concept cars but rather as 'a genetic transformation to spread a message'
to the car industry and consumers about the new directions possible, departing from the ideas and objects
that have already shaped the present from the past.

The UFO is a stunner. Makes one wish there was any way at all of propelling it. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. The best of what one recognizes in Citroen designs. Lovely.

Evomobil even has handles at each end for the slaves to carry you down the street.
Parking is a breeze.

UFO is the closest Citroen has come to honouring their amazing design heritage that is the the DS ( basically it is a DS - beautifully squashed as he says) makes me hanker for them to use those design cues on realisable cars

beautiful thoughts though
