for nearly 150 years, japanese company hiyoshiya has been designing and manufacturing lamps using the same techniques involved in the production of traditional wagasa umbrellas.

‘kotori’, the latest piece to join the collection will be displayed at nime studio in zona-tortona at milan design week 2011. influenced by the way sunlight shines through an open japanese umbrella, the lamps – available in hanging and standing versions – feature carefully hand-crafted washi paper and bamboo shades, which light softly filters through.
