in his first collaboration with vitra, konstantin grcic has created ‘waver’, a swivel chair which embodies a new aesthetic, reinterpreting a classic type of furniture with sweeping new dimensions and an unconventional lightness. on show at salone del mobile 2011, the chair looks to deliberately devoid itself of conventional typologies, implementing instead commonalities of lightweight, high performance sports equipment.

a fabric-spanned seat sits suspended inside a shaped tubular steel frame. designed to offer the flexibility of a cantilever chair, the piece uses simple technical construction that supports the body while allowing for a wide range of motion. colorful and contrasting fabrics made from waterproof materials clearly emphasis connecting and functional elements, highlighting the contours of the object and supplying the pieces with a sporty aesthetic.
