jo nagasaka: flat table peeled at spazio rossana orlandi

'flat table peeled' by jo nagasaka / schemata architecture office
japanese designer jo nagasaka from schemata architecture office has created a contemporary interpretation of the traditional japanese
hassoku dai, a low table with 8 legs, by using a plank as a table top that is then finished with a layer of colored epoxy resin in
fluorescent pink or yellow. this new design follows in the steps of its predecessor 'flat table' developed in 2009,
where jo nagasaka has added epoxy resin to the surface of antique tables, in order to smooth and regulate the uneven
and different depths of the table tops. this new version called the 'flat table peeled' uses the brightly colored resin
to square off the uneven edges and surface of the wooden panels cut from the lengths of trees.
the table was on show at spazio rossana orlandi during the milan design week 2011.
