memphis, one of the most important cultural movements that took place in the 1980's,
is an initiative that was created by the late italian designer ettore sottsass and a group of young
milanese architects and designers, who have redefined the way in which we relate to the space we live in.

celebrating its 30th birthday this year,  on the occasion of milan design week 2011 they painted the town 'red'
with a collection of sculptural furniture objects by british designer richard woods based on the iconic image
of the 'red brick'.

consisting of objects, conceived, realized and hand-decorated by woods himself, the pieces are made of 'bricks'
constructed from wood, hand-carved and hand-painted red, reflecting the color of many traditional london buildings,
where the artist himself lives. in the pop art aesthetic that is woods' signature, he has developed a series of lamps,
tables and bookshelves, ready to be used in our houses, in our everyday lives, as decorative elements,
or three dimensional paintings.
