'split' by dae hoon jung - 'FUJITSU design award 2011'

'split' by dae hoon jung from korea, is a shortlisted entry among over 3000 participants from our recent designboom competition
'a life with future computing', organized in collaboration by FUJITSU.

designer's own words:
'what are the most uncomfortable things when using a laptop? probably the unsuitable size and weight of the portable personal computer.
due to the improvement of a network system, most devices offer a suitable user environment.
'split' configures, like a well-organized student's set of supplies, allowing users to take out the things they need and use, such as a:
mouse, keyboard, pen etc. by taking out the standard hinge, 'split' looks more like a book. by unifying the product and case (pouch),
not only the case protects the product, but it also helps in the user interface allowing one to adjust the angle of the screen
and support it simultaneously. 'split' allows individuals to use the devices in a variety of of scenarios. when the laptop is in a bag,
the user can control it by using a remote.

the exterior of the computer is designed to look like a woman's high-end hand bag

Beautiful styling. But it does seem to take too much space in depth. Also, the display can only have one angle. Not really sure if it's much more different than iPad with a keyboard case. But I love the violet honeycomb texture.

awesome renders!

Excellent Styling. Textures are sensual, colors are charming and the detailing is exquisite. The idea is also cool but, I would say, rather tedious and cumbersome. All-in-all, its a great piece of work. All the best.

With all due respect, this is a (naive) creative idea but without much thinking behind it..... the only "innovative" add on to a tablet PC is the pen described. I doubt someone has critically thought through the rest of the set, how it actually functions as a family of products and how they interact efficiently.
Fantastic rendering, although a bit spoiled by grammar and/or typing errors.

I really like this. I can see many women being interested in it. I never use a mouse anymore, however, and would want to be clear that it had a touchpad instead. (Not just a touchscreen.) It's very visually and texturally appealing, and the handbag picture towards the middle of the presentation makes it even more appealing to business women.
Paula   05.17.11
I like this nice design, color n styling in laptop, but still a big size compare with ipad in handbag for woman.
kit   05.17.11
it should be one long "foldable" peice of hard sound absorbing paper/screen so when you unfold it you can make a little tent over your head.
so like sitting at a table your screen arches with movable joints over your head maybe into a backrest to lean on. probably only doable with expensive graphane or as part of a vespa

In a few words: I would choose an iPad
