‘otokurage’ by nendo

‘otokurage’ (in japanese ‘oto’ = sound and ‘kurage’ = jellyfish) are earphones designed by japanese studio nendo for computer accessories manufacturer elecom.

here, nendo has enlarged the silicon ear caps that cover earphones as a means of hiding the entire device, to create in-ear headphones which exhibit a soft feel and transparency reminiscent of a jellyfish. as earphone components are unified into one piece, substituting the color or size of the earcap alters their look completely. in keeping with the image of a jellyfish floating in water, the packing draws on the form of a PET plastic soft drink bottle.

‘otokurage’ is available in japan at the end of may 2011.
