tokyo-based designer hisakazu shimizu of sabo studio presents new works in the exhibition 'fruits',
currently on display at vivid gallery in rotterdam. examining the universality of fruit, this series of objects
recreates these borderless products of nature as domesticated, man-made housewares. the collection includes
a range of pieces, from melon-shaped porcelain clocks to colorful glassblown lamps, that subtly suggest fruit
with their spherical shapes and stem details.
the exhibition also displays works from shimizu's 'japanese history series', which examines the place of
hairstyles in his country's cultural identity. see designboom's previous coverage of the project here and here.
