ori levin: adhoc folding canoe

'adhoc folding canoe' by ori levin
israeli designer ori levin from studio tsor design has created 'adhoc': this full-size canoe can be folded into a bag
the size of a standard backpack (13 x 23 x 70 centimeters). weighing 4.1 kilograms, the materials were carefully
selected to be both lightweight and resilient: the frame is made of carbon fiber while the hull is made of aramid,
a heat-resistant synthetic fabric used in racing sails.
a corner lock holds the telescopic poles to form each end, and a parasol-like mechanism in the center maintains
the structure of the sides. the canoe can be assembled in approximately five minutes.

Are these going to be for sale?

Looks like it would be very cold. Just a thin plastic fabric between you and the water?
Great to have a 4kg boat though. Well done!

But when you sit in it, the gunwales are up to your armpits. This would make paddling very difficult. When I sit in a regular canoe, the gunwales are at my hips - much better. (Even a kayak gives the right amount of arm space.)

Looks very good. Though it would be nice to see the red model in the water (without a puddle in the bottom, of course).
OmiOmiO (on 07.27.11) and Charles (on 07.29.11): Don't overlook the seat in the more finished version. It should keep you high enough to paddle more effectively than in the clear polythene version, and should keep your upper torso (if not your legs) away from direct contact with the boat's skin and hence away from the cooling effects of the water. (Having sat in a DIY "coracle" made of nothing more than flexible plastic pipes and plastic sheeting - I know from experience that OmiOmiO has identified a real problem - at least in some climates).

Very interested if you decide to sale these. I can see a large market for it. As previously stated I would want to see it in the white and red too.

This is going to be for safe? I would like to see a video. If it lasts long enough, sure we will see the goodness of survival equipment must be of compulsory purchase with this wonderful canoe. Take a look at the last picture. Again.
