‘oca’ pavilion at parque ibirapuera designed by brazilian architect oscar niemeyer which was the venue of design são paulo

this summer marked the inaugural year of design são paulo, the first international event of its kind in brazil. the five design salon was hosted within the ‘oca’ pavilion at parque ibirapuera designed by brazilian architect oscar niemeyer and built in 1954.

it is intended that design são paulo will become an annual event, whereby one space will be dedicated entirely to a selected designer or collective. to kick-off this first presentation, local design designers fernando and humberto campana were awarded as ‘designer of the year’ and exhibited a selection of their works from the course of their design practice.

more than 350 unique design and art pieces, represented by approximately 85 brazilian and international artists, were represented by 20 galleries and stores. the event was meant to stand as a venue for the exchange of ideas, bringing together different segments through design, as well as lectures, workshops and talks with international and national guests.
