the ‘quack’ cabinet is dutch-belgian design duo studio job‘s (nynke tynagel and job smeets) newest furniture object. the storage unit presents smeets and tynagel’s signature interest in the traditional veneer application technique of marquetry. the imagery executed in this artistic craft practice is the anatomy and bone structure of a human torso, in which veins and arteries extend outward to cover the surface of the cabinet, resulting in a somewhat abstract aesthetic, with surgical tools and bones interspersed.

the ‘quack’ cabinet is on show at studio job gallery in antwerp belgium until october 1st, 2011. studio job: quack cabinet quack cabinet, 2011 (closed) marquetry of indian rosewood, polychrome dyed veneers, multiply wood, polished and patinated bronze castings, brass, glass panels, cork, labels, PU coating unique piece / commission 187 x 200 x 60 cm collection van sint fiet
