'holey poley', a modular daybed concept designed by australian-born, copenhagen-based furniture design student clinton stewart,
is composed solely of wooden poles and interchangeable cushions, adaptable to a range of seating configurations.
a primary wool mattress is gridded with a series of holes, into which short and long poles are inserted to function as legs for the unit.
atop the the longer poles, users can place one of a series of cushion models to create armrests or seating divisions.

'holey poley' is part of the sydform exhibition of nordic furniture design, at the code 11 trade fair during copenhagen design week 2011.

this is actually pretty brilliant.

I'd have to agree... it's one of those "why didn't I think of that!" designs
fastiago   09.07.11
Does not look very comfortable though... especially around the wooden pole areas.

Great modularity, but... Why open pole heads? Why can´t the holes where the poles enter be covered to avoid people getting hurt.

Appart from that, cool project.
What?   09.07.11
The expression embraces naive simplicity whilst maintaining conceptual functionality. I feel the expression would be lost by hiding the tips of the poles. I understand the concern about the open tips, but think this is a small price to pay in order to uphold the playful expression. It is quite comfortable for a prototype.......and the open tips are great to massage ones feet on. : )

thats really very good - the bamboo end also serve as a clue to its modular nature, inviting use and experimentation. Were they hidden it would simply appear as another boxy couch -as it is your mind starts to be able to examine the possibilities as soon as you clap eyes on it ( well thats my take) - Well Done Clinton!

clinton, i really love your design, its beautiful! but did you consider configuring the holes as in the corners of equilateral triangles in stead of squares? in this way, diagonal placement of the cushions would also be possible!
Manolo   09.08.11
Brilliant! I'm amazed at the simplicity, this is great design.

Will kmart stock these?
