german designer stefan diez elaborates on his ‘404 chair series’ for furniture manufacturer thonet with the addition
of the new ‘405 PF’ and ‘406 PF’ padded armchairs.

the development of the ‘404 chair series’ first began in 2008, as a means of furnoshing the fireplaces area of the
reitschule café in munich’s english garden. now, diez has transformed the original ‘404 F’ arm chair into a
comfortable lounge seat in the form of ‘406 PF’, by shortening the legs of the original design,
and outfitting it with a soft seat padding. a slightly higher version of the chair ‘405 PF’ is a permanent part of the
thonet collection.

diez’s designs feature seat and backrests made from moulded plywood, with legs and rear cantilevers made of laminated wood.
all chairs are available in beech, either natural or stained, painted white or finished with a textured lacquer in various colors.
the padding is available with a leather or fabric cover.
