spanish designer maximo riera completes his animal chair collection with the 'walrus chair'.
accompanying his 'octopus chair' and 'rhino chair', the series of three sculptural seating entities retain the vitality of the
animals which they represent, staying true to their biology and appearance. the collection is a tribute to these
specific creatures as well as the animal kingdom as a whole, attempting to reflect and capture the beauty of the
living wildlife which surrounds us.
riera presents his animal chair collection at 100% design london as part of london design week 2011.

bringing the outside in, the assortment of pieces use light and shadow to create a dynamic yet fragile metropolis simply by turning on a bulb.

the hand-turned shades are produced with a roughly finished interior which adds texture and describes the story of stone production.

the throne is a sculptural dedication to the animal kingdom in the form of a piece which boarders between art and furniture object.

because of its superlative size and presence, the design is considered more like a throne than a chair, the rhino meant to reflect nature's capacity and mightiness.
maximo riera: octopus chair
the piece looks to bring life to the basic function of the chair, making it more present and creating a stronger connection between the spectator, the object and its environment.
