maximo riera: walrus chair

'walrus chair' (profile) by maximo riera

spanish designer maximo riera completes his animal chair collection with the 'walrus chair'.
accompanying his 'octopus chair' and 'rhino chair', the series of three sculptural seating entities retain the vitality of the
animals which they represent, staying true to their biology and appearance. the collection is a tribute to these
specific creatures as well as the animal kingdom as a whole, attempting to reflect and capture the beauty of the
living wildlife which surrounds us.

riera presents his animal chair collection at 100% design london as part of london design week 2011.

It may have worked in colour, even just white, but it looks too similar to real taxidermy, so unfortunately as someone who actually appreciates animals for qualities other than their form, it is quite a depressing object.
mr copernicus   09.12.11
will he makes a human chair too?
Sergius   09.12.11

fjr   09.12.11
sorry but it's stupid and ugly =)
Q   09.12.11
I am not entirely convinced that turning these wonders of nature into chairs is such a fine 'tribute'

maximo riera: elephant chair

design | 05.02.12

the throne is a sculptural dedication to the animal kingdom in the form of a piece which boarders between art and furniture object.

maximo riera: rhino chair

design | 08.23.11

because of its superlative size and presence, the design is considered more like a throne than a chair, the rhino meant to reflect nature's capacity and mightiness.

maximo riera: octopus chair

design | 01.13.11

the piece looks to bring life to the basic function of the chair, making it more present and creating a stronger connection between the spectator, the object and its environment.
