coinciding with london design week 2011, spring projects presents 'escape into the upper air', an exhibition of newly
commissioned work by london-based studio el ultimo grito (EUG) (rosario hurtado and roberto feo).

imaginary architectures series, 2011

the centre piece of the show is a collective of glass works, new additions to EUG's imaginary architectures series
sitting on top and sprawling across two brightly pigmented and polished fibreglass tables that act as their foundation.
this set-up offers an elegant sprawl of delicately formed glass objects, creating an urban vista which includes a shopping mall,
airport, estate, building and station. these 'glass buildings' are connected by 'glass bridges' reminiscent of a venetian landscape.
'imaginary architectures' are propositions for the social, material and spiritual elements of cities.
these 'structures of anything' allow one to probe, question and speculate upon the relevance and meaning
of these spaces in our lives...

other works include two large vertical hanging tables that aim to
challenge our conventional understanding of the furniture objects
along with delicately
structured cloud lamps, creating a mesmeric geometric pattern with light
and shadow.
the tables use cardboard as the base construction material to form
non-geometric, organic-like furniture and are coated
(as if dipped) in
fibreglass. their resin finish creates an immediate contradiction
between the throw away, biodegradable cardboard interiors,
and their
durable high-finish outer shell. these works instill the presence of both
sculpture and functionality and are set in motion
with a variety of
corporeal attitudes and tactile responses. they are made to be responded
to both physically and psychologically,
posing questions about our
social experience to objects.
using color, material, texture and scale this exhibition creates a bold, audacious and immersive landscape of pieces that demand our attention.
