simon hasan at london design week 2011

simon hasan has developed a set of leather stools with a cast aluminium frame

UK-based designer simon hasan presents three new works on the occasion of london design week 2011.

hasan has been selected as one of the four designers in residence, an annual program hosted by the design museum
which seeks to further the careers of emerging young designers. he has used this opportunity to continue developing
his interest in crafts and mass-production by prototyping a leather stool designed for volume manufacturing.
in order to do so, hasan has developed his leather-hardening process to create a deeply drawn seat which is intended
for everyday use. the formed leather seat is suspended on a cast-aluminium frame, which sits upon extruded aluminium legs
electroplated in brass or black nickel. the seating object is the first in a range of self-produced furniture for retail.

a second presentation of the designer's work is viewed in a show at contemporary craft which has been curated by janice blackburn.
here, hasan has installed a vase in boiled leather which is juxtaposed by a neck of mirror-polished brass sheet.

leather mannequins for fendi

finally, in continuing his collaboration with italian luxury brand fendi, hasan has developed a set of mannequins
which are influenced by the work of cubist artist georges braque. each of the deeply faceted figures are realized through
tightly formed leather, completed with refined panels of gold and palladium gilding.
