sebastian errazuriz: personal registration of time passing

'personal registration of time passing' by sebastian errazuriz
sebastian errazuriz has developed a limited edition series of timepieces entitled 'personal registration of time passing'.
the chilean-born new york-based artist / designer recently purchased a large collection of vintage second hand wind-up watches
for the project. bringing the time tellers to his local clockmaker in brooklyn, errazuriz asked the gentleman to remove the minute
and hour hands off of the watches, leaving only the second-hands to continue ticking away. at first the clockmaker did not understand
errazuriz's request and he further explained that if he left only the second-hands, these would be the first watches that don't actually tell time,
but which allow you to just watch that it is passing.
'today we don't need wrist watches; we have the time in our cell phones, iPods, cars and computers. the daily act of winding up
a mechanical watch every morning; knowing that it won't tell the time but simply activate the second hand becomes a humble daily act
in awareness and self discipline. a small, maybe futile but genuine attempt to try and remember that time is passing and that day
we wish to remember that we need to make the most of our time.' - sebastian errazuriz
the limited edition timepieces can be purchased online from gray area.
