charlie nghiem: rotor digital camera

'rotor' designed by charlie nghiem

paris-based designer charlie nghiem has reinterpreted the user interface of the digital camera.
getting rid of buttons all together, a stacked cylinder composed of several rotating parts allows
users to choose their settings. when a section is spun, a corresponding line appears on the screen.
all the functions are the same, however, accessing it is made simple. the column is also ergonomic,
taking into consideration the movement and positioning of the fingers and hands.

I like this

This is hot. Put this in a stylish retro housing and you've got at least one buyer.
fred   10.03.11
I hope Charlie is trying to sell this concept to a camera company. The interface looks great and intuitive. NO MORE MINI BUTTONS SLIDING IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS!

Absolutely lovely.
Brilliant.

Dunno how it would work structurally, but i like it.
hope the wheel have enough grip and don't move to loosely!

It has elegant design though I am not sure if it is easy to use...

Excellent

Really bad idea. No concept of usability. Impossible for my thumb to turn only ONE smooth surface roller and not touch the others.
Leo   10.04.11
this reinterpretation of the digital camera does away with complex menus to introduce fiddly smooth wheels with no grip whatsoever. brilliant.
peayq   10.05.11
Hope there's a mechanical interlock mechanism to prevent impossible combinations of settings!
burgesst   10.05.11
I think the functions would be much easier to access if only the top red tab would be a rotating part and the rest would just be buttons. Otherwise a really nice and simple design.
