ubico studio: the wake furniture collection

'wake', a new collection by tel aviv-based ubico studio creates new furniture out of otherwise
useless scrap timber. after selecting the wood, each piece is cut down to an extremely accurate size,
appearing random but in reality, carefully designed. glue is used to unify the parts into one solid structure.
at this point, the block is carved into a tree stump form, playing off the original appearance of the material.

a christian wake ceremony sparked the idea for the furniture pieces. although the scrap timber could
not be reincarnated once more into trees, the design creates a new life for the planks.
