a selection of work from sculptor hans-henning pedersen of bornholm, denmark is currently on exhibition at
galerie sofie lachaert in tielrode, belgium. the 'wood boost' collection communicates an appreciation of wood either through
its use as a medium in the actualization of work or in emulating the qualities of this raw material. pedersen's series is comprised of
bowls of various depths and circumferences, all shaped from freshly-felled tree trunks cut to 3mm thin. the artist draws
attention to the elasticity of the material in highlighting the grain and markings through the form of each piece. pedersen's
work was shown as part of the show 'wood boost', which also includes works by tyge axel holm, matthew weatherly, flora vagi,
MDST and chein-wei chang.

Beautiful work, though not completely original. I recently bought a similar vase with 3mm thickness from local craftsmen in Laos.

it is very beautiful but how is iy made. does anyoe have an idea. i think it is not n a lathe because they are bent in the midle
Martin   10.13.11
i think they are turned "green" i.e. from a freshly felled tree, then as they dry they distort and bend. Quite an old technique but done very nicely here.

i dislike that more and more every comment has something to do with originality. If anyone knows, nothings original, commentors need to be more original with there reactions.
