london-based, bulgarian-born home wear designer velichko velikov created 'lastika' in the italian lagostudio workshop.
the circular shape of the steel tubular frame, in combination with the 40 vibrant elastic bands that comprise the
seat of the chair, has a flower-like resemblance. the color scheme of the elastic belts are reminiscent of the traditional shades
of bulgarian tapestry work. 'lastika's lightweight design is highly portable while also upholding structural integrity as
an entirely stable piece.
the piece was featured at budapest design
week 2011 in the program series 'design hét
couleur locale:
európa snínei tárgyakban': the colours of europe in objects
design exhibition’ within the bulgarian cluster.
three contemporary projects from thirty countries of the
european union were featured in the exhibit as the cultural
and artistic
characteristics of each nation were appreciated in each display. the pieces
were selected based upon
the guidance of that nation's design experts by assessing the artists' ability to convey the local color,
tone and
aesthetic of their respective homes.

heh, nothing to do with the lastika chair.
Take a careful look at my design. It meant to be mass produced - in ANY angle - low production price, easy assemble, safe use. AND 40 EQUAL elastic belts with a frame.
HOW can you compare both chairs?! They are not even close as a concept. The chair you are pointing at is hand made, not optimised, just an experiment - more art than a real product. Not to mention that it is a three legged one. And DEFINITE|LY not an existing model - you can't buy this one in a regular shop - because it is not enough efficient to be mass produced.
Or i am wrong?
here you go....!
Hmm, this one looks more like that spider chair everyone is talking about. But it's still a different vision. Still i'd like to have that elastic chair, rather than the other 2 pointed out here. I like the elastic bands and the colours and you can never get the same happy feeling with the net. And i guess seating is more comfortable in the elastics rather than the net. Design is for how things work, not only how they look. Wise man, Steve Jobs!
anyway i like more this chair, as i was saying... improved!...
Ok guys, as i promised - i did a folder with some old versions of the chair.
The main idea was to have a chair with a feeling of a hammock. Actually i started with a square frame, but it was changed afterwards as the circle is simplier and easier for production - not that much weldings and cuting/sanding.
But anyway - i will let the pictures to speak for the process:

The last version was the daisy_bw.jpg, but i wanted to simplify it and i came with the idea of the belts with tie-like knot just when i was working on the real prototype. This solve (simplify) the frame - otherwise it has to be done from 4 parts.
Also the wooden legs was changed to only metal one with welding in terms of easy and lowcost production.
I always appreciate comments over my work, but to think that i just take existing model and change it to have something in production is not right as i am sure that everyone is doing his best to be unique in his work.
