german company ledo LED technologie GmbH has created 'bulled', a series of three retrofitted LED light bulbs which match the size,
shape and brightness of incandescents while being 85% more energy efficient. 11 dimmable LED modules combine in a single frame
to create as much illumination as a 60 watt incandescent while only being 11 watts. while fluorescent alternatives are also energy efficient,
they have a cool color temperature, giving off a white light. by contrast the color temperature of 'bulled' is 2800K,
allowing the light to look very warm and natural. because of the shape, the light disperses at 330 degrees. with a lifespan
of 80,000 hours it lasts 80 years with conventional use. 



'bulled classic'


the first of the series, 'bulled classic', is made of aluminum and other durable electronic components. there is no mercury
or lead to be found, unlike in other incandescent alternatives. the body is composed of the LED bulbs located inside cooling fins. 



'bulled modular'


for 'bulled modular', the cooling fins are no longer needed. the fin cones form air ducts,
and with the resulting thermodynamic movement, the cool air is guided through the ducting. 



'bulled star'


in 'bulled star' aluminum is replaced with a combination of synthetic materials, making it the most lightweight of the series.
the conductive qualities of the material allow it to match the cooling efficiency of the other two models.

I bet they cost 100 times what a normal bulb costs. Look great but very complicated and costly to manufacture.....

Dear Dr. Design,
they most likely DO cost way more than a normal bulb... but they last for 80,000 hrs. so would you rather pay 30 cents for something that will be in the trash in a few months or 30 dollars for something that you only need to buy once? I guess it's a matter of principal.

Quite expensive but a very good design nonetheless and energy efficient too.

First, how does the light intensity hold up after so many hours of burning? The pigtail fluorescents start to dim about a quarter of the way into their life span. Another issue they didn't address in the article. What rare earth metals are used in the LEDs? The World seems to be having trouble with getting rare earth metals since China has cut off the exporting of their rare earth metals resources. If we don't get rare earth metals, we don't have LEDs.

Why don't they compare it with compact flourescent lightbulbs? Oh, The comparison to incandescents is for marketing purposes. Costwise, this doesn't make sense. Excuse the pun.
