sibylle delclaux: ageless objects

french designer sibylle delclaux has created a technological porcelain collection entitled ‘ageless objects’. the project consists of several every day technology based objects such as speakers, a radio, an alarm clock and door bell redefined in porcelain, wood, gold enamel and cotton. the conductivity of the gold enamel in each work channels the electricity necessary to power their various functions.

her porcelain reinterpretations of ordinary objects call into question the excessive consumption and overproduction in standard in which many of these items have previously been fashioned; her work ties together both archaic and modern technological and design elements.

the alarm clock’s two porcelain bells provide the ringing function

the bells are silenced by touching the side of the clock face

‘chorus’ sound level is controlled by turning cones

the speaker consists of independent cones and their respective spaces within a wooden board

each porcelain cone is able to be removed entirely from the wooden control panel

‘orator’ is formed by porcelain, gold, walnut wood, orange-pink natural rubber. 21 x 7,5 cm. with the volume controlled by moving the peg by hand

the compact radio is easily transported from one place to the next

a light switch, turned off and on by balancing the hanging porcelain teardrop on the lip of the wall mounted surface

to turn off the light, one must tip the porcelain piece from space in which it balances on the wall mount

the speakers are fashioned from enameled porcelain and bisque, glossy and matt gold, oak wood, and cotton wires 19 x 38,5 x 11,5 cm
