the guggenheim museum has just announced the short list for the biennial hugo boss prize 2012.

created in 1996, the award recognizes significant achievement in contemporary art. a publication featuring work by all the nominated artists will be available in summer 2012, prior to the announcement of the winner in the fall. a collection of distinguished jurors– composed of museum directors, curators, and critics– will determine from among the six shortlisted artists the recipient of the 100,000 USD cash prize, who will exhibit in a solo show in 2013 at the solomon r. guggenheim museum in new york.

the 2012 finalists are: monika sosnowska (b. 1972), polish – sculpture and architectural installation qiu zhijie (b. 1969), chinese – mixed media installations and concept art, investigating historical and present-day china trisha donnelly (b. 1974), american – carving, performance, fine and media arts danh vo (b. 1975), vietnamese – installation and media art, examining personal identity and cultural narrative tris vonna-michell (b. 1982), british – spoken-word performance and multimedia installation rashid johnson (b. 1977), american – photographs and video exploring racial and cultural identity
