dominic wilcox: moments in time

'comfortably oblivious', 2011

'moments in time' is a collection of five new watch sculptures by british designer dominic wilcox, which cover subjects
ranging from protests to surveillance to money and football. the time-based artworks are created from vintage mechanical watches
which stand as the bases of the time-tellers. the miniature figures are affixed to the second and minute hands of each timepiece,
resulting in animated scenes which draw on everyday situations and imagined situations. for example,
two people sitting on a bench fail to give up their seat to an elderly woman walking with the aid of a stick while holding bags
in 'comfortably oblivious'.

'UC davis protest', 2011

the work's title says it all for 'UC davis protest'.
'I find it disturbing when people in positions of power abuse it and lose any sense of humanity.
I was shocked to see the footage of the pepper spraying of people sitting in a peaceful protest at UC Davis.
I felt a need to capture this incident in time
.' - dominic wilcox
