designboom has received images of 'tent time' by israeli industrial designer ido bruno and photographer yael rubin,
now on exhibition at the hebrew university in jerusalem. the work is an refined expression and reflection upon the
protests which occurred in the summer of 2011 surrounding social issues pertaining to israeli life. bruno,
a senior lecturer in industrial design at the bezalel academy of arts and design installed four hundred and twenty
miniature tents through out the gallery space, radiating from a central point. yael rubin's design featured photographs
with the tents, directing the viewer's attention to the characters of the social protest by enlarging photos to accompany
the tent structures.

'tent time' is accompanied by a booklet written by the artists and academicians from hebrew university expressing differing
views about protest and the symbol of the tent. the image of the tent has an inextricable connection with israeli history.
'ohel moed' was considered a place of god when the people of israel wandered the desert thousands of years ago; this
phrase is translated from hebrew to mean 'tent of time' in english.

'the phrase 'time of the tent' refers to the appearance of the first signs of maturity of a young generation that wishes to
shape its future, challenges the social conventions in israel and take a stand by erecting a tent

When I saw the tents ,, first thing came in mind is the hundred of thousands of indigenous Palestinians forced to live in UN tents as refugees ,, when their lands where stolen by colonial Israel ..

come on, this is so literal.
it's a bore.
no creativity.

there's nothing wrong with something being literal, if you get something out of the feeling or thinking that happens when you see or experience it. not all art or design is about ingenuity, there can be other end goals too. i have not been to this installation but i think being there in person would be very striking.

I've seen it in person, and it seems like it was done a million times before, not interesting, no emotion. cheap manipulation. that's it.
sorry
