designboom brings you a sneak peek of british designer tom dixon's highly anticipated work, spotted at maison et objet 2012.
the entire body of works of the new 'eclectic' collection is the fair's best kept secret, as images have not officially been released
to the public.
'cast shoe' is probably the most sculptural of them all. it refers to a classic english
gentleman's brogue,
cast in solid aluminium with either a copper plated
finish or a black powder coating.
is it a bowl?
each piece of footwear
measures approximately H85 x W300 x D100 mm and features details such as creases from wear and
decorative perforations.

in recent years dixon concentrated on explorations of materials and manufacturing techniques to apply to his
lighting and furniture designs.
with the 'eclectic' collection he also wanted to execute some of the smaller ideas the studio had along the way.
'things that are to play with or give or use everyday, things that are designed and are undesigned, things that are… eclectic.'
dixon is currently in discussion with international manufacturers
regarding the production of the pieces, with hopes of going public
before september 2012. stay tuned for follow ups. we are waiting for tom's go ahead.

I am a designer, I love old shoes...I love fashion and art...but this is useless for all but the most diehard popular culture fan. Perhaps Ton Dixon envisions becoming the next Warhol...with castings of commonplace ubiquitous items...but the idea is old.
