'in & out' by arik levy for forestier

israel-born paris-based multidisciplinary designer arik levy has presented 'in & out' and 'cage' displayed at maison et objet 2012.
for french manufacturer forestier. the lights are made using basic, traditional tools and material -- the hand-made paper
is combined with metalwork to produce the versatile collections.

'in & out' lights are able to stand or be hung or placed on its side
47.5 x 25 cm and 65.5 x 30 cm (18.7 x 9.8 inches and 25.8 x 11.8 inches)

'in & out' is based on the flexibility of being able to use a lamp both indoors and outside. redefining the form of a drop-cord worklight,
the object can function both as standing or pendant lighting. the flat base allows the frame to rest on a surface,
while the hook on the opposite side enables the lantern to be hung.

'in & out' features an integrated hook which allows users to hang the lights

'cage' table lamp

'cage' surface light can function both as a table and pendant lamp

available in both black, blue and red, 'cage' has a simplified form, emphasizing the texture of the paper lampshade.
the smallest of the three sizes is a table light, however, when turned upside down, it transforms into a pendant.

The concept is not new ! A kind of miw between Wanders' light and Guixé's light. Arik Levy make a really boring design job for me.

Hi Melissa, I also see similarities to work by Grcic and Noguchi. I like these similarities, and the ones you mention. I don't understand the apparent need for "new concepts". The pursuit of novelty is boring design to me.

Whats great is being able to use these outdoors.
