the superbowl commercial for the 'chevy sonic' combines OK Go, extreme sports, and other adventures


chevy has just released its 2012 superbowl (XLVI) ad for the 'sonic' compact car. like an extreme sports version
of a home movie, the ad documents some of the vehicle's signature 'first moments': sonic's first skydive, sonic's
first music video (for OK Go), sonic's first kickflip (with champion skateboarder rob dyrdek), and sonic's first bungee.

highlights from the commercial include professional skateboarder rob dyrdek driving a 'chevy sonic' off a giant ramp
to flip the car 360° in midair, as well as footage from the car being launched from an airplane alongside champion skydivers.
the car's bungee jump from 100 feet was actually spurred by clicks from online users, wherein each click helped power
a digital-mechanical hand that ultimately pushed the car off. lastly, 'sonic's first music video' is a reference to a stunt
performed by the band OK Go (to be released as a complete music video in the coming days) in which the musician's
recreate their song 'needing / getting' by driving a 'sonic' in order to manipulate instruments set up roadside.
