taking its cues from its freestanding brother ‘stacked’, ‘mini stacked’ is a wall mounted shelf designed for scandinavian brand muuto. a simple clip, allows one or two shelving cubes, that are not attached to the wall, to freely change position around one that is. each individual unit measures 332 x 332 x 260mm and is made from painted MDF, veneer and metal clips. JDS architects at stockholm furniture fair 2012 ‘stoop’ by julien de smedt architects for vestre

‘stoop’ is a public bench with multiple seating levels commissioned by norwegian furniture company vestre. the project draws its reference from the famous photograph ‘a great day in brooklyn’ by lem peterkin depicting a gathering of famous jazz musicians from the 20th century posing on a stoop. whether you’re waiting out front your friend’s house in brooklyn, posing with a tourist group on the spanish steps of rome, or standing outside the sydney opera house, JDS architects wanted to incorporate the universal idea of using stairs as a sitting object into their seating design.

offering a way of sitting that is less prescribed, more flexible and more social, the steeped bench has a triangular plan which allows a placement that not only serves as a bench, or table-bench, but functions also as an urban auditorium. the intention is that ‘stoop’ will be installed in schoolyards and at universities to hang out with friends or to just stop and sit for a moment amongst the hustle and bustle of the everyday. each piece is made from steel, wood and tartan and measures W2050 x D1850 x H1000 mm.
