shepard fairey iPhone and laptop cases

iPhone cases by shepard fairey for incase in red yen, gray yen, elephant, and lotus (left to right)

american artist shepard fairey has just collaborated with incase design on a series of backpacks and laptop and smartphone covers.
the pieces combine symbols of peace from across different cultures with elements of fairey's well-known 'obey giant' street art.
the incase series comprises a snap case for iPod touch (30 USD) and iPhone 4 (40 USD); 11-inch canvas sleeve for macbook air
(79 USD); and 13 and 15 -inch canvas laptop sleeves (80 and 90 USD); as well as a 'campus pack' laptop backpack (150 USD).

'the artworks that comprise my series for incase all overtly or sublimely reflect the concept of peace.
peace seems like a simple idea,  but evidence of its fragility is far too visible. I believe peace, beauty, and harmony
are not only related, but intertwined. visual symbols of peace manifest similarly in many different cultures,
transcending language and reminding us of the basic loves and needs we all have in common. peace is a struggle,
but whether the images are ornamental, hopeful, or cautionary, this series promotes harmony.

can you imagine he once started out with critical pieces of (street) art which?
but now reigned by the dollar... so sad!

I think these are really nice. and I wouldn't say that shepard fairey is 'reigned by the dollar'. he seems to have been given quite a bit of artistic freedom in this project, and creating a mainstream product is a much more effective way to get a message out there than is the street. besides the obvious fact that the guy has to make a living somehow, I think its a question of message and medium and their boundaries much more than it is of selling out.

i love it! obey giant in a lotus!!!
seriously though i do really like the concept of mashing different cultural images of peace...
since mixing and understanding different cultures would ultimately be the path to peace...
